April 09 - Computer vulnerability and Information Security

Presently, Technology has grown enormously. All of us use desktop computers, laptop in different operating systems like Windows, linux, etc. All of us spend more time on internet. Every day, new virus gets circulated and all the computers in our office and at home are not safe. Without your knowledge, the data can be stolen from your system. Even the firewalls cannot prevent this. There may be some hole in your system, through which, the data can go out.

The online financial transactions also nowadays pose greater risk. Vulnerabilities in the Banking sites have enabled the hackers to spread their worm to the online users. Many users get cheated through fake emails asking for id and passwords.
More we use the Technology, more we will be exposing ourselves to a greater risk. A new terminology like 'Cyber terrorism' has also come into usage. In spite of all the various threats, sadly, there is less awareness amongst the Corporates and the users about the security of their own transactions. While, we cannot stop the growth of the technology and our usage, we need to guard ourselves from the bad effects of technology.

In the interest of the general public, this issue will deal with the fundamentals of computer vulnerabilities and how to protect ourselves from this 'greatest' risk. We want to create an awareness. We are fortunate to have Mr M L Srinivasan, Founder and CEO, ChennaiNet, a well known Security Expert to Guest Edit this issue.

March 09: Celebrate Democracy - Vote India

Jai HInd: Celebrate Democracy - Vote IndiaIndia is in the process of electing her 15th Lok Sabha. More than 700 million eligible voters will be electing 543 Parliament Members in a few days. Indian Election Commission has already set the process.

All along, the youngsters and educated middle class have not shown much involvement in the election process. Nearly 60 percent of the educated middle class never went to polling booths. They used to give excuses like criminalisation and corruption in politics. for their attitude. There is also another view that due to non participation by educated middle class, the political parties are taking advantage and that leads to the deterioration of quality in politics.

Whatever be the reasons, today, India is the largest democratic country in the world. Democracy is the only better form of governance, when compared to other models like autocracy or dictatorship. Democracy has also flaws. The advantage is that people can correct the flaws, if they want.

Now, there is a large scale awareness has come amongst the educated middle class, particularly amongst the youth about politics. Media also has started analysing and reviewing the performance of the Members of Parliament in 14th Lok Sabha. They started analysing their attendance, participation in debates, raising of issues and questions, etc. This has also created an awareness amongst the Members of Parliament that they are being watched.

In this context, the March 09 issue of PR-e-Sense deals with the theme 'Celebrate Democracy -Vote India'. The purpose of this issue is to provide some basic awareness to the youth about the Indian Parliament and its role in National development.

This issue has many unique features. Mr S K Kharventhan, Member of Parliament and the top-most performer in the 14th Lok Sabha has honoured us by Guest Editing this issue. We also have an exclusive interviews from Former Indian President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr T S Krishnamurthy and Well known Parliamentarian Mr Era Chezhian. This issue is guest edited by Mr Triambak Sharma, Editor of Cartoon Watch, the only cartoon magazine published in India from Raipur. In an exclusive podcast interview, he explains as to how cartoons can be great communication tool for any corporates.

In this issue, we bring out a case study of a cartoon published in one of the leading Tamil weekly Ananda Vikatan angered the politicians leading to the arrest of the Editor of the magazine, who was later released due to the agitation by the media at global level.

A simple cartoon can communicate more effectively than ten thosuand words. That is why, it angers the politicians also.

In this issue we also carry the symptions and remedies for Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) suffered by working women. Every page of this issue brings you new information. You may download the ezine from
